Work Placement

This course contains a minimum of 120 hours of work placement

Host organisation

Work placement hours can be done part time or as a block, depending on the host organisation’s requirements and availability.

You will not achieve the following units of competency until you have completed your work placement hours:

  • SIRXWHS002 Contribute to workplace health and safety
  • SIRXIND002 Organise and maintain the store environment
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • SIRXCOM002 Work effectively in a team
  • SIRXIND001 Work effectively in a service environment
  • SIRXCEG003 Build customer relationships and loyalty
  • SIRXCEG001 Engage the customer
  • SIRXSLS001 Sell to the retail customer

You will need to undertake your work placement in an organisation involved in providing retail services to customers such as Supermarkets, Grocery Stores, Department Stores or Retail Stores.

Immunisations

Please note that your host organisation may require you to provide an up to date immunisation history prior to the commencement of your work placement. Open Colleges has no control over this requirement so if you are unable to provide this, you will need to discuss it with your intended Host Organisation.

It should also be noted that some immunisations, such as Hepatitis B and COVID-19, need multiple injections to be administered over a specific time period before you are deemed immune. It is important that you consult with your GP as soon as possible to avoid delays in starting your work placement.

Supervisor requirements

The workplace supervisor will need to have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in the retail industry, and
  • 1 year in a supervisory or team leader role
