What is tourism?
Tourism is a part of the world of hospitality, and at its heart, involves helping people experience more of the world. The tourism industry is huge, worldwide, but Australia and New Zealand have both recently seen the travel industry grow exponentially.
Tourism jobs include:
- Travel consultant.
- Travel agent.
- A sales agent who will sell tourism products via an online operations system.
- Tour operator.
- Being involved in delivering visitor information.
- Working for a travel agency behind the scenes writing up testimonials and experiences of customers.
Why study tourism?
Completing a qualification in tourism is perfect for a number of scenarios. If you’re interested in travel & tourism, but you’re not sure where to get started, then short courses could be perfect to get you started with some practical skills, like how to work with computerised reservations.
If you know that this is what you want to do, then longer TAFE courses or traineeships will prove to employers that you’re passionate about your career, and are willing to invest in higher education or further education for yourself.
Meanwhile, if you already work in the industry, online courses can help you with professional development or learning about new areas, like Australian destinations, or normal international airfares vs. promotional international airfares.
A travel course is perfect for anyone interested in hands-on experience and a valuable qualification.
