What is Tourism?

Working in tourism and leisure involves helping others plan and enjoy their travels, and helping with post-travel processes. This may include working in planning and booking travel for others, working on or around flights, in hotel management, providing tourism information about different available destinations, processing post or pre-travel costs and booking attractions for clients while overseas and overseeing trips home. If you love travel and want to turn your passion into a career, pursuing training in tourism may be one of the best ways to achieve your goal.

About the Industry:

According to Tourism Research Australia, there was a 7% increase in 2017 in overall tourism spending in Australia. As the world becomes more globalised and travel becomes more common, tourism both within Australia and overseas is expected to increase. This means that students who choose to study tourism are looking at a career in an industry that is predicted to grow significantly.

Studying Tourism:

There are available travel and tourism courses in Melbourne, Sydney and other major metropolitan areas, in rural areas via TAFE schools as well as via distance or online learning. Tourism course subjects may include managing conflict, preparing quotations, and providing advice on both Australian and overseas destinations.
