The scientific community can change the world through their research projects whether it be medical research, psychological research, etc. The Australian science sectors (in particular health care and professional technical service) are in the top three popular industries.

It’s been estimated that 75 per cent of jobs across all the fastest-growing industries will require scientific skills over the next decade. You won’t have to worry about your employment status once you get your science degree.

Scientists don’t necessarily have to work in a lab or at NASA: they can work in schools, companies, clinics and many other locations. They generally also make a high amount of money, receiving approximately $81,298 per annum.

How do you get a job in science?

If you’d like to study science, there are a few things to consider, the majority of jobs in the scientific field will require higher education. There are a few routes you can take, though much of it requires a university degree. One of the most common pathways is to complete a bachelor degree in science (three years full time), which gives you a full range of all the scientific disciplines from mathematics to biomedicine.

You can also take a diploma of science, which is generally shorter than a bachelor’s (approximately 1-2 years) and is used to prepare a student for their bachelor’s depending on the university they go to. No matter what pathway you take, once you complete your undergraduate degree, you will be eligible for postgraduate in your specific discipline, which increases your chances of success in your industry. Again, depending on the university’s faculty of science, it can take six months to several years to complete.

However, you don’t have to be on campus to study science. If you’re interested in animal science, computing, health, social sciences and more, shortcourses.com.au has got you covered. We provide you with flexible online courses that can help develop your skills in those areas, which you can then add to your resume. Some courses can even help you find a job right away, for example, with a vet assistant certificate.
