The Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance – Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Focus ensures you have the real-world skills and theoretical understanding to thrive in a career assisting Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists to help improve the well-being and mobility of patients.

Practical elements
You’ll be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of mandatory work placement in an Allied Health workplace, performing tasks under the direction of a qualified workplace supervisor.

Subjects
This course contains the unit HLTAID011 Provide first aid, which must be completed through an external RTO. Foundation Education has an agreement with Red Cross Australia (RTOID 3605), which allows students to receive training for this unit at a reduced price.
Please note that the cost of this external training is not included in your course fees.

Eligibility

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
No specific educational prerequisites are required to enrol in this course.
Parental permission
Students under 18 are required to have their enrolment form signed by a parent or guardian.
Residency status
You will need to be a permanent Australian resident (or equivalent) or have the right to study in Australia other than a Student Visa.
External requirements
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid must be completed with an external provider.
Physical capabilities
You’ll be required to complete workplace tasks that involve manual handling and may be required to have certain vaccinations or a medical exemption if requested.
We offer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) as an option for those who have gained relevant skills and knowledge through prior experience or training. If you believe you may be eligible, please contact our Career Advisor to discuss the RPL process and how it can be applied to your studies.
Please note: While RPL allows you to gain credit for existing knowledge and skills, it is not necessarily less work than the standard study method. The RPL process requires you to demonstrate your competencies through rigorous assessment, which may involve providing evidence, completing 3rd party observation checklist, knowledge questions, and/or attending competency call (for certain government funded enrolments).
Work Placement
Work placement requirements
You’ll be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of mandatory work placement in an Allied Health workplace, performing tasks under the direction of a qualified workplace supervisor.
Workplace supervisor requirements
You’ll be required to perform tasks under the direction of a qualified Primary or Secondary workplace supervisor. The supervisor must meet the following criteria:
- Primary workplace supervisor requirements: Be an Allied Health professional currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Secondary workplace supervisor requirements:
- Option 1: Hold a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance qualification or higher, and have at least 12 months of full-time experience working as an Allied Health Assistant within the last three years (or the part-time equivalent of 12 months of fulltime experience)
- Option 2: Demonstrate that they have worked as an Allied Health Assistant for at least three years (or the part-time equivalent of three years’ full-time experience over the past five years).
- You’ll be responsible for sourcing an appropriate work placement host employer/s. Foundation Education may provide support and guidance to identify work placement opportunities.
Work placement logbook
You’ll be required to record your hours performing real and simulated tasks in a workplace environment in a logbook. The logbook must be submitted via our online learning management platform.
Curriculum
- Assessments will include a range of quizzes, knowledge questions and case studies. Students will also need to undertake workplace projects and observations and will be required to submit video evidence of their learnings
