Course Information
The CHC40221 Certificate IV in School Based Education Support equips you with the required experience, training and expertise to work in various education support jobs. This course reflects the role of workers who operate under the guidance of teachers in Australian public, private or community schools to support student learning.
From providing one-on-one assistance to students with learning disabilities to helping with the everyday running of the classroom, the responsibilities of those working in education support are varied, fulfilling and crucial to student learning. With a Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support, you will graduate with the skills and understanding to work in a variety of classroom settings.
Study Load
- 17 course units (note: HLTAID012 must be completed with an external provider)
- Submit 1 course unit every 5 weeks to graduate in 18 months

Professional Recognition

Eligibility
There are no formal entry requirements mandated by the training package.
Residency status
To enrol, the prospective student must either be a permanent Australian resident (or equivalent), or have the right to study in Australia other than on a student visa.
External requirements
HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting must be completed with an external provider.
Parental permission
Students under the age of 18 years require the signed consent of a parent or guardian to enrol in this qualification.
Work placement
Students must complete 100 hours of work placement in at least one school in Australia catering to primary and/or secondary students with:
- Access to a classroom environment catering to students between the ages of five and 18 years, within at least one school in Australia.
Workplace supervisor requirements:
For the completion of the 100 placement hours, students must have access to a classroom environment catering to primary and/or secondary students within at least one school within Australia. The student must be supervised during their placement by a teacher or other education professional.
Education environments may include:
- Government school (primary and secondary)
- Private/non-government school (primary and secondary)
Working With Children Check (WWCC):
Students who are enrolled in this qualification must hold and provide a copy of their valid Working with Children Check prior to commencing any placement activities.
Work Placement
Students must complete 100 hours of work placement. The student must be supervised during their placement by a teacher or other education professional.

Quizzes may include multiple choice, matching, true/false to test students’ knowledge
Assignment
Assignments may include short answer questions or longer answer questions and are designed to test application of knowledge in real-world situations
Case Study
Realistic scenario/s requiring students to apply knowledge learnt
Knowledge Questions
Short-answer questions relevant to the information students have learnt within a unit
Project
Assignment that enables students to conduct more detailed exploration of topics
Terms and Definitions
Short-answer questions where students provide definitions of words and concepts relevant to a unit
Practical/Observation
Record of students performing real and simulated tasks relevant to a unit. This may also be referred to as a Observation Assessment or Video Recording Observation Assessment
Workplace Observation Assessment
Record of students performing real and simulated tasks in workplace environments under supervision. This may also include the completion of task documents, templates, and client feedback which the student must complete in the in conjunction with observation tasks
Workplace Project Task
Record of students performing real and simulated tasks in workplace or simulated workplace environments. This requires students to complete templates, tools and/or tasks within the assessment
Record of Hours
Record of hours completed by students performing real and simulated tasks in workplace environments
Video
Video recordings of students performing real and simulated tasks/activities in workplace or simulated workplace environment including interaction with primary or secondary school children, colleagues and/or families
