Are you stuck in an average job, feeling like you are repeating the same mundane tasks every single day? If you are putting off chasing a new career or enrolling in a course to start fresh, 2019 is the year for change.
2018 has come to an end, so if you didn’t achieve your goals this year, 2019 should inspire you to create a new success plan for your career, life and wellbeing. However, most people don’t actually stick to committed decisions. Only 8% of people end up achieving their New Year’s resolutions. This can come down to the fact that life plans continuously alter and thus can make sticking to goals difficult. Try to stay committed to your goals but be flexible in the way you approach your life plan.

When one aspect alters, all other factors will eventually change and it will take hard work to get to a place you feel confident in. The New Year is a brand new you, a time where you can have a quiet reflection on 2018 and make small or even large changes to your personal goals. Through identifying your passion or dream job, then researching the job market and the courses available, you’ll be well on your way to succeeding in 2019.
Chasing a Passion
If you have your heart set on something, remember that there is a difference between being interested in a goal and being committed. It is no use to chase a passion if you are only interested in getting to the end; you will second guess yourself and make excuses or circumstances as to why you can’t reach it. If you are committed to your goal for 2019 there will be no excuses or reason as to why it hasn’t happened yet as you are dedicated to continue to working hard for it.
Of course you have to be realistic. Most successful people take years to get to where they want to be. The real world is not an easy place to navigate, and it requires hard work and dedication. In order to successfully chase a career goal or passion, set yourself mini goals throughout 2019, or even just one realistic goal to get you started. You won’t become CEO in one day. Getting to the victory will take time, patience and research. Make sure your skill-set can be shifted into a job that lines up with your passions.
Job Market
Before planning and making a career change, you should have a look at what jobs are available and what qualifications they require. Some changes in career require minimal qualifications, so you don’t have to attend university or a TAFE in order to make your dream job a reality. Others may require 3 or 4 years of further education, so before notifying your current place of employment that you intend to leave, it is definitely advised that you research the job market.
Statistics recorded in July 2018 by the Department of Jobs and Small Business show that the sector offering the most jobs will be the Health Care and Social Assistance sector, which is projected to provide people with 250,500 new jobs in the next 5 years.
Other growing sectors include Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, Construction, Education and Training and Accommodation and Food Services. So if you are interested in any of these industries, 2019 is the perfect year to make the switch and jump into a new career. After conducting some research on jobs available that are related to your passion, you need to check if you can apply straight away or if you need extra qualifications.
New Courses
Once you’ve understood the new career path you wish to go down, it’s time to research the thousands of courses out there for you to choose from. They are offered by different educational institutions, at different levels and at different methods for you to study. If you’re deciding to branch into a different area but remain in the same industry, you may choose to complete a short course or gain a certificate to add to your previous knowledge.
If you are moving into a completely different industry, you may have to consider a diploma, advanced diploma or even look at higher education such as a bachelor’s degree. Remember that your new career may only be found at TAFE institutions, or only at specific Universities. Check to see where your industry best recommends gaining a qualification from and what type of educational knowledge you need to succeed.
Technology these days has allowed many people to study without actually being in a classroom. Learning through distance education or online courses are great for stay at home parents, for people who live in rural area and those wanting flexibility during their day. There are many online institutions that offer this flexibility but it is important to check whether or not your course has this option.
If you’ve always had your heart set on something, don’t wait another year to chase a passion or start a new career in a completely different field. Let 2019 be the time for change and a new life plan to increase your happiness in life and at work.
