Our CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a course designed for entry-level into the early childhood education and care industry. As a childcare worker, you will be responsible for the care of children with a childcare facility, making sure you provide the best care possible based on the needs of each individual child and their programs.

Gaining the Early Childhood Education and Care certification will assure you have the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in today’s today’s childcare profession. We employ trainers that are current in the industry, either running their own businesses or working as authorised supervisors and mentors in childcare centres, Trainers who are able to give you insight into the industry and daily demands and are current on best practice in the industry.

Duration study load

  • The course is delivered over 35 weekly sessions (30 theory classes + 4 practical skills classes + 1 first aid class)
  • 160 hours of practical placement with 2 assessor workplace visits
  • Self-paced learning, which is approximately 15 hours per week
  • It is expected that the course could take you 12 months to complete, though this can vary from person to person

Delivery

The following delivery methods are available:

  • Blended: Live online classes via teams + in person skills sessions. You will require a computer with a camera and microphone to undertake this delivery option.
  • Classroom Based: All sessions delivered in one of our classroom locations in Melbourne.

Entry requirements

  • The ability to travel to and from placements – placement hours can be early starts
  • Access to a computer or smart device and the internet to complete your studies and the ability to access websites and undertake online research and assessments
  • Obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) before commencing your placement
  • The required Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills to complete a Certificate Ill level course. This will be assessed in your pre-training review during enrolment

Work placement

Practical placement is on-the-job training that you undertake during your course. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice the skills you are learning in the classroom in a supported manner.

This course requires you to complete 160 hours in the workplace. A workplace trainer will visit you in the workplace to observe and assess competency in skills towards the end of your placement hours.

Assessment

All learning content and assessments are on Canvas our Learning Management System (LMS). Paper assessments may be requested for an additional cost if you are in a classroom based delivery model.

  • Log book of hours completed during placement
  • Practical demonstrations in simulation and the workplace
  • Oral questions
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and Credit Transfer (CT) are available

Payment options

You may be eligible for a Victorian government-subsidised place through the Skills First Program we are contracted to deliver. Course fees & costs depend on whether you are eligible for a government subsidy with fund made available by the Victorian & Commonwealth Governments.

Basic Funding Eligibility Criteria (other conditions may apply):

(1) Evidence of citizenship/residency, you must be either:

  1. an Australian citizen;
  2. a holder of a permanent visa; or
  3. a New Zealand citizen

(2) You can enrol in a maximum of 2 funded qualifications and 2 funded skills sets in one year

(3) You can undertake up to 2 funded programs at one time

(4) We require you to be 17 and over and not enrolled in high school to access funding
